DESCRIPTION:Our first community meeting/social will be at the Sedgwick Library in JP on Thursday Sept. 12th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Hope you can join us! \nWe’re interested in creating a JP makerspace consistent with the ideals and philosophy of the maker culture but one that also complements the unique art inclinations of Jamaica Plain.  We’re thinking about a space that will encourage and promote the exploration of DIY technology\, nurture a collaborative community of makers\, host unique events and classes\, provide workshop space for rent\, and access to well maintained equipment such as 3D printers\, small scale fabrication\, CNC machines and other cool tools.

SUMMARY:Wake Up the Earth Festival 2013
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be manning an info table at Spontaneous Celebration’s annual Wake Up the Earth Festival. Come by and talk to us!  We want to know what kind of projects you’re interested in doing at a maker lab in Jamaica Plain! \nThe Wake Up the Earth Festival  began in 1979 when a group of local neighbors and activists banded together to stop the Interstate 95 expansion into Jamaica Plain. The festival began as\, and still is\, a celebration of what can be accomplished when people of all traditions\, cultures\, ages\, and beliefs come together. The annual Wake Up the Earth Festival (WUTE) takes place each year on the first Saturday in May and is currently attended by well over 10\,000 individuals of all ages and features 4 stages including the music and dance performances\, Popular Theatre\, the Youth Stage\, and Story Telling for All Ages. In addition to performances\, WUTE features over 50 craft\, non-profit\, and food vendors; recent festivals have also included an enchanted puppet forest\, side shows\, live bands\, dancers\, acoustic performers and a giant pageant. A great many individuals\, local artists\, community groups\, and schools join forces every year to create this unique community collaboration. \nvia Spontaneous Celebrations  \nCheck out photos!
